Learn to Surf
Na Opio Kai keiki lessons are located at The LineUp at Wai Kai. The LineUp at Wai Kai is a state-of-the-art property that fosters the waterman lifestyle, blending surfing and paddle sport activities. Children are taught the fundamental skills and culture of surfing and paddling in Hawaii, learning beginner to advanced skills during their guided lessons.
Your child’s safety and well-being are our top priority. All Na Opio Kai staff must submit to background checks and are trained to work with children. For the safety of your child, a designated The LineUp shirt will be issued each day at the start of lessons. We ask that your child wear the provided The LineUp rash guard T-shirt during the activities, so they are easily identifiable.
Please note most surf and waterfront staff are Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED and Lifeguard certified.

Rain/Inclement Weather:
Safety is our number one priority for our staff and our keiki. With Hawaii weather, we will continue to operate during a slight rainstorm. However, during a lightning storm or other severe weather event, we will need to cancel our water activities. Paddling events in the Wai Kai Lagoon may also be suspended due to high winds that would make the activity unsafe. In these events, we will schedule more land-based activities. We will monitor the weather forecast closely and communicate any changes to the planned schedule.
Medical and Illness Procedures:
For the health and safety of all staff and all keiki, please do not send your child to Na Opio Kai if they are ill. If a participant becomes ill during the day, parents will be notified immediately to pick up their child.
Upon notification of an ill child, Na Opio Kai instructors will separate the child from other children to avoid the spread of sickness. Child must be free from symptoms for 24 hours before returning to their lessons.
